Kylie Jenner made an appearance at the 2023 Met Gala dressed in a one-armed red gown created by Haider Ackermann for Jean Paul Gaultier. The makeup mogul posted a YouTube video detailing her preparation process for the event. In the video, Jenner explained that Ackermann had given her strict dress guidelines for the night. During her final fittings, Ackermann instructed Jenner not to sit down and not to move the arm of the dress. On the day of the fête, Jenner traveled in a sprinter van to the Met to avoid wrinkling the dress. She even held Ackermann’s hand to maintain her balance during the drive.
Kar-Jenners and Suffering for Fashion
Jenner’s appearance at the Met Gala is not the first time the Kar-Jenners have suffered for fashion. In 2019, Kim Kardashian wore a corset so tight that she had to take breathing lessons to prepare for the Met Gala. She was also unable to sit down during the event. In 2022, Kardashian lost almost 20 pounds in a few weeks to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s gown since the iconic museum piece could not be altered. While Jenner’s dress may not have been as physically painful as Kardashian’s corset, it was still a testament to the lengths that the Kar-Jenners will go to make a fashion statement.
Jenner’s Met Gala appearance was not only about her dress, but also about her makeup and hair. She explained the inspiration behind her messy bun and revealed the matte Kylie Cosmetics eyeshadow palette used to achieve her beauty look. Although Jenner did not reveal whether her choice to attend the gala with Ackermann was tied to her rumored relationship with Timothée Chalamet, who is friends with the designer, it was clear that she was dressed to impress.
