King Charles and Queen Camilla Attend the Braemar Games in Scotland

Saturday marked a highlight of King Charles’ annual Scottish holiday as he joined his wife, Queen Camilla, and sister, Princess Anne, at the Braemar Games. The monarch embraced the Scottish tradition by donning traditional tartan attire. However, what made his outfit even more special was that it featured a brand-new tartan design created in his honor. The Scottish Tartans Authority had carefully crafted this unique tartan, which showcased green, blue, and red colors. This distinctive design represents not only the occasion of the coronation but also recognizes King Charles’ unwavering support in preserving the culture and traditions of highland dress and Scottish tartans.

The specially designed tartan, officially registered with the Scottish register of tartans, is woven from 100% Scottish wool. It draws inspiration from the Balmoral tartan sett, which dates back to around 1850 and is still worn by the current monarch and other members of the royal family. The color palette of the tartan was meticulously matched to the natural dyes used in 18th-century tartan specimens from the collection of the Scottish Tartans Authority. The result is a visually stunning tartan with a central triple stripe motif, similar to other royal tartans.

While King Charles stole the show with his distinctive tartan, Queen Camilla also caught attention with her elegant outfit from Mr Roy. Princess Anne, on the other hand, arrived at the event wearing an all-red ensemble that showcased her impeccable style. Her stunning flat hat added a touch of sophistication to her overall look. The Braemar Games, a prominent event in the royal calendar, sees senior royals like Princess Anne and King Charles enjoying the Highland Games and partaking in the joyous festivities. These moments have graced Christmas cards sent by the royals in previous years.

Traditionally, the monarch serves as the patron of the Braemar Royal Highland Society. Throughout her life, the late Queen attended the event alongside her husband, Prince Philip, and King Charles. Now, with the passing of the Queen, the royal family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, will soon commemorate the one-year anniversary of her departure. Additionally, the couple will embark on a state visit to France later this month. Originally scheduled for March, the trip was postponed due to widespread protests against President Emmanuel Macron’s pension age reforms.

The Braemar Games continue to hold a special place in the hearts of the royal family, with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Princess Anne upholding the tradition this year. The unique tartan design, specifically created for King Charles, pays homage to Scottish culture and demonstrates his dedication to preserving highland dress and tartan traditions. As the summer break comes to an end, the royal couple will undoubtedly have a busy schedule ahead of them, marked by both solemn remembrance and official engagements. As they prepare for the future, their continued presence at events like the Braemar Games ensures the preservation and celebration of British traditions for generations to come.
