Kate Middleton attended a luxurious party at Buckingham Palace with other royals and VIP guests from around the world ahead of the coronation ceremony on Saturday. The attendees were dressed in their finest outfits to celebrate the historic event. Middleton, who is 41 years old, wore a twisted crêpe midi dress by Self-Portrait in a stunning royal blue color. The rich shade could be interpreted as a nod to the UK’s Union Jack, which she had honored previously during an outing with Prince William. Middleton paired the draped dress with her favorite sapphire- and diamond-fringe earrings, which previously belonged to the Queen Mother. As expected, she did not wear a tiara for the party.
Prince William looked smart in a navy suit and mingled with distinguished guests, including some who did not make the guest list for the coronation. According to a source, the pre-crowning party was attended by most of the VIP coronation guests and those whom Their Majesties wanted to invite to the ceremony but couldn’t due to the scaled-back numbers. Prince Harry, who arrived in the UK earlier on Friday, did not attend the party with his family. He planned to attend the coronation ceremony on Saturday without his wife, Meghan Markle.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, as well as Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine, showed up to the party to support the king. Other guests included Monaco’s Prince Albert and Princess Charlene, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, King Jigme Kesar and Queen Jetsun of Bhutan, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, former queen Princess Beatrix and future queen Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, King Philippe and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, and US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.
Dr. Biden wore a silk floral Tom Ford dress worth $1,495 to the event. The glamorous evening came ahead of the big day on Saturday. The coronation events included a procession through the streets of London before the ceremony started at 11 a.m. BST (6 a.m. EST). King Charles and Queen Camilla rode to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, a carriage created for Queen Elizabeth II to mark 60 years on the throne in 2012, before being officially crowned.
