The royal family came together on Sunday evening for the Coronation Concert to celebrate King Charles’s coronation. The Prince and Princess of Wales were in attendance with their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and were seen singing along and waving their flags to performances from Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Take That. The concert was hosted by Hugh Bonneville and included appearances from Hollywood star Tom Cruise, actress Dame Joan Collins, adventurer Bear Grylls, and singer Sir Tom Jones via video message.
The Reception
Following the concert, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a reception at Windsor Castle with guests including The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and their daughter Lady Louise. It is speculated that some of the performers from the concert were also in attendance. The festivities continued on Monday with a bank holiday to celebrate the King’s coronation.
The Big Help Out
To mark Charles’s crowning, the Big Help Out initiative was launched, encouraging the public to take up hundreds of thousands of volunteering roles. An app was created to search for volunteering opportunities, ranging from helping the elderly to supporting animal welfare. While the King and Queen did not attend any events in-person on Monday, other members of the royal family were present to support the initiative. More than 1,500 charities were involved in the initiative, making it a lasting volunteering legacy.
