Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has filed for divorce from her husband, Jayson, after over 15 years of marriage. The announcement was made through a statement released by Boebert, who said she filed for divorce in Mesa County, CO.
The statement read, “It is with a heavy heart that I have filed for divorce from my husband. I am grateful for the years we spent together and our beautiful children, who deserve privacy and love as we navigate this process. I have always upheld the sanctity of marriage, which makes this decision even more difficult, but our differences have become irreconcilable.”
Boebert, who represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, stated that she will not discuss the matter publicly out of respect for her children. She also made it clear that she will continue to work hard to represent her constituents in Congress.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jayson resisted attempts to serve him with the divorce papers. He reportedly shouted profanities at the process server while cleaning a gun and drinking a beer.
The couple, who got married in 2006 when Boebert was 18, have been open about their relationship in the past. Boebert revealed in her book, “My American Life,” that they had wanted to get married when she was only 16. However, they were turned away from a Las Vegas wedding chapel due to the minimum age requirement being 17.
The two also opened up Shooters Grill, a gun-themed restaurant, together in 2013. The wait staff at the restaurant even carried firearms. They are also expecting to become grandparents, as their 17-year-old son Tyler is having a child.
