Prince Harry Attends Father’s Coronation, Meghan and Children Remain in US

Prince Harry has traveled from the US to the UK to attend his father King Charles’ coronation on May 8th. The Duke of Sussex arrived in the country on May 6th via an American Airlines flight. However, his wife Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, did not accompany him and have instead remained in the US. The palace confirmed in April that Prince Harry would attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey, while Meghan would stay in California with their children.

Prince Harry’s First Public Appearance with the Royals Since Stepping Down

This event marks Prince Harry’s first public appearance with the royal family since he and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals three years ago. It will also be the first time he has been pictured with them since the funeral of his grandmother, the late Queen, in September. His attendance at the coronation will see him appear in a public setting with his father King Charles, Queen Camilla, his brother Prince William, sister-in-law Kate Middleton, and the rest of his family. This is significant as Prince Harry has been critical of the monarchy in recent years, sharing his story in a Netflix documentary and in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It is unclear how long Prince Harry will stay in the UK, but he may want to return home as soon as possible to celebrate his son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday. It is also unknown what the arrangements will be for his security while he is in London. Additionally, it is believed that Prince Harry will not play a specific role in the coronation ceremony, and whether he will appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the royal family for celebrations afterwards remains to be seen.

A weekend of royal festivities has been planned, including a balcony appearance after the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, a concert at Windsor Castle, and Big Lunch events on Sunday. Monday has been set aside for volunteering and is being billed as the “Big Help Out”. Prince Harry was last seen publicly in the UK at the end of March 2023, when he made a surprise appearance at the High Court in a separate claim against Associated Newspapers over allegations of unlawful information-gathering. However, it was reported at the time that he did not meet with his father or brother during his brief stay.
