No Charges to be Filed in Altercation Between Britney Spears and Spurs Rookie Victor Wembanyama’s Security Team

Las Vegas authorities have announced that no charges will be filed following an investigation into an altercation involving pop star Britney Spears and the security team of San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama. The incident occurred on July 5, and Las Vegas police confirmed on Friday, July 7, that Britney Spears had unintentionally struck herself in the face when her arm was pushed away by a member of the basketball player’s security team.

According to the police report, surveillance footage, which has since been shared on social media, clearly shows the sequence of events. Britney Spears approached Victor Wembanyama to tap him on the shoulder, but before she could make contact, a member of the security team swiftly pushed her hand away without looking. This sudden force caused Britney’s hand to hit her own face.

Initially, Britney Spears had filed a police report accusing the security team of battery. She was in Las Vegas with her husband, Sam Asghari, when she spotted the NBA player from behind and tried to get his attention by tapping his shoulder. She explained that she had seen him earlier in the day at the ARIA Hotel and wanted to say hello when she saw him outside Catch restaurant.

However, instead of allowing her to approach the player, the security detail reacted by slapping her arm away, inadvertently causing her to hit herself. Shortly after TMZ first reported the incident, Britney took to social media to share a statement with her fans. She expressed her surprise and described the incident as traumatic, noting that she has had her fair share of such experiences in the past.

Britney Spears also mentioned that she is frequently swarmed by fans and emphasized that her security team did not harm any of them that night. Despite feeling embarrassed about the incident, she believed it was important to share her story and called on public figures to set an example by treating all people with respect.

Victor Wembanyama, also known as Wemby, did not explicitly mention Britney Spears when he addressed the incident. He stated that he did not witness what happened because he was walking straight and was instructed not to stop. According to him, someone grabbed him from behind, not on the shoulder, and the security team promptly pushed that person away. He continued walking and enjoyed a pleasant dinner without further incident.

At the age of 19, Victor Wembanyama was selected as the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Standing at an impressive height of seven feet and five inches (2.26 meters), he is currently the tallest active NBA player in the 2023-2024 season and the ninth tallest in NBA history. The Spurs’ first game of the new season is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 7, 2023, against the Charlotte Hornets at Las Vegas’ Thomas and Mack Center.
