Morgan Wade Announces Double Mastectomy After Testing Positive for BRCA Gene Mutation

Morgan Wade, the rising star of country music, has announced that she will undergo a double mastectomy later this year after testing positive for the BRCA gene mutation. The 28-year-old singer, known for hits such as “Wilder Days” and “Don’t Cry,” shared the news exclusively with Page Six at London’s Highways Festival on May 20.

Wade explained that she had been tested for the BRCA gene, which produces proteins that help repair damaged DNA, after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. The test revealed that she had inherited harmful variants of the gene, putting her at increased risk of several types of cancer, including breast and ovarian.

The singer, who works out 7 days a week, expressed her disappointment at the prospect of having to take time off to recover from the surgery. However, she remained upbeat and optimistic, saying “I’m feeling fine, I’m just pissed I won’t be able to work out because I really like working out. That’s my only qualm about it.”

Wade’s announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that her second studio album, “Psychopath,” will be released on August 25. The album follows her critically acclaimed debut, “Reckless,” which topped Rolling Stone’s Best Country Albums of the year list in 2021.

Speaking about the new album, Wade said that she and her team had worked hard to create a cohesive sound that would build on the success of “Reckless” without being too different. “With ‘Psychopath,’ we’ve done a really good job of moving on from ‘Reckless,’ to the next stage without it being so crazy different,” she said. “I’m excited, every song on there has its own sound and is completely different.”

The album, which will feature 13 tracks, is said to reflect Wade’s life since the release of “Reckless.” “It goes into where I’m at in life right now,” she said. “Which is so busy. It’s about growing up and being older, and starting to feel like, ‘Is it time to settle down?’ I think you’ll see a lot of that on the record.”

Wade’s courage in speaking openly about her health struggles is sure to inspire others who are facing similar challenges. Despite the setback of her diagnosis, she remains focused on her music career and determined to overcome any obstacles in her path.
