Johnny Depp Donates $1 Million to Five Charities After Receiving Settlement from Amber Heard

Actor Johnny Depp has donated $1 million to five different charities after receiving settlement money from his ex-wife Amber Heard. According to a source close to Depp, the donations will be split equally between the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and Amazonia Fund Alliance, with each charity receiving $200,000.

Amber’s payment comes six months after she decided to settle out of court following their infamous defamation trial from earlier in 2022. In December 2022, she announced in an Instagram post that she had made the decision to settle after she had attempted to appeal the courts’ earlier judgment. A seven-person jury found that she defamed Depp in her Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence, and he was subsequently awarded more than $10 million in damages.

In her statement, Amber said that she never chose the situation and that she was defending her truth. She also detailed the difficult aftermath she faced due to the trial and the response to it. She made it clear that her payment was not an admission and that there were no restrictions or gags on her voice moving forward.

Amber will return to the public later this month when her new film In the Fire premieres at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. The flick is a supernatural thriller set in 1899 Colombia. She plays an American psychiatrist who’s arrived to psychoanalyze an emotionally disturbed young boy who locals believe is haunted by otherworldly forces.

Johnny, on the other hand, premiered his recent film at the Cannes Film Festival and is currently on tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires. He celebrated his milestone 60th birthday on June 9 and took a moment out of the band’s show that night to dedicate David Bowie’s song, ‘Heroes’, to his late friend Jeff Beck.

The donations made by Depp will go towards supporting some of the world’s leading charities. The Make-A-Film Foundation assists children with serious or life-threatening medical conditions in creating films for their families and friends. The Painted Turtle provides children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to attend camp and enjoy activities that would otherwise be impossible. Red Feather supports Native American housing and education, while the Tetiaroa Society works to protect Tetiaroa Island, a private atoll once owned by Marlon Brando. Finally, the Amazonia Fund Alliance works to protect the Amazon rainforest.

Depp’s donation is a welcome relief for these charities, which have been struggling to keep up with demand amid the pandemic. The charities provide vital support to people in need, and Depp’s donation will go a long way in helping them continue their work.
