Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Presidential Run on Twitter Amid Technical Failures

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his run for the presidency in the 2024 elections on Twitter. The announcement was made on Wednesday via a campaign video that blames President Biden for crime-filled streets and conflict at the border. The video further claims that DeSantis is the person who can lead the “great American comeback.”

Technical Issues Plague the Announcement

DeSantis was initially scheduled to announce his candidacy via a Twitter Spaces chat with Elon Musk. However, technical issues forced hundreds of thousands of listeners to endure moderator David Sacks’ audio cutting in and out. Elon Musk acknowledged that Twitter’s servers were struggling to keep up with the traffic, and social media users criticized the event, with one calling it a “car crash.”

The technical difficulties also prompted President Biden to take a jab at the announcement by tweeting a link to his donation page, which he claimed “works.”

DeSantis’ Use of Twitter Sets Him Apart from His Competitors and Challenges Trump

DeSantis’ choice of Twitter for his presidential announcement sets him apart from his competitors, as well as challenging former President Donald Trump. Trump was famously banned from Twitter after the January 6 insurrection but has since had his account reinstated. However, he has chosen to devote all his online activity to Truth Social, a social media platform he has launched.

DeSantis’ use of Twitter to announce his candidacy may reawaken Trump’s dormant account, and the move may also signal a significant shift in how presidential candidates choose to announce their campaigns.

Despite technical issues during the announcement, DeSantis has set himself apart from his competitors by using Twitter as his platform of choice.
