King Charles III has inherited the Royal Collection of jewels, which is worth billions of dollars. It is now his responsibility to decide who will wear which pieces to his coronation on May 6. While there may be a more cost-efficient coronation, many are hoping to see amazing jewels on display at the event and the VIP party at Buckingham Palace the night before.
The Jewels of Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine
Queen Camilla is set to wear the Queen Mary Crown during the coronation and may also wear other fabulous headgear, such as the Greville Tiara, which features 200 carats of diamonds and is worth $17 million. She may also wear Queen Victoria’s stunning coronation necklace, which features the 161-carat Lahore Diamond. However, this necklace may be deemed too controversial as it comes from the same collection as the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which is tied to colonization.
All eyes will also be on Catherine, the Princess of Wales, as she is the wife of the heir to the throne and the next queen consort. Speculation is abound about which tiara she will wear to the coronation, with options including the Lover’s Knot Tiara (previously worn by Princess Diana), the Cartier Halo Tiara (worn for her wedding), and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara (which was gifted to Queen Elizabeth II by her grandmother and would spotlight Catherine’s future as queen).
The Jewels of Other Royal Women
Other royal women, including Anne, the Princess Royal, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, are likely to borrow items from the Royal Collection for the coronation. There is also speculation that the new “Family Order” may be worn by some of the royal women. This special miniature painting of the monarch bordered by diamonds is given to the most trusted royal women to wear as a brooch on their left shoulders. Queen Camilla, Princess Catherine, Princess Anne, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duchess of Kent are among the few women expected to be part of this exclusive club.
