Tom Hanks Skips Cannes Film Festival Photo Call After Viral ‘Scolding’ Incident

Tom Hanks skipped the photo call for the film “Asteroid City” at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, following a viral incident in which he appeared to “scold” a festival employee. While co-stars Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, and Bryan Cranston attended the post-premiere event, Hanks was notably absent. The reason for his absence is unclear, as both his wife, Rita Wilson, and the employee in question, Vincent Chapalain, denied any agitation on the part of the A-list couple. Wilson posted a screenshot of an article about the alleged tiff on Instagram, adding the caption “This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?’ But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. Go see Asteroid City!” Chapalain also came forward on Twitter to corroborate Wilson’s account, stating that all he did was ask if the couple should return to the start of the carpet with the rest of the film crew.

Hanks’ Previous Incidents at Cannes

This is not the first time Hanks has made headlines at the Cannes Film Festival. Last year, the “Cast Away” star was captured on video yelling at fans who nearly knocked over his wife. In the footage, Wilson can be heard shouting “Stop it!” while Hanks screamed “My wife? Back the f–k off! Knocking over my wife?!” before the couple quickly made their way into a waiting car. Despite the incident, the couple has been married for 35 years, having met on the set of “Bosom Buddies” in 1981. They began as friends, as Hanks was still married to his first wife and college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes.
