The UK celebrated the final coronation festivities on bank holiday Monday, marking a grand weekend for the nation. Although the King and Queen were not present publicly, other members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, appeared on their behalf. Monday was named the day of the Big Help Out, providing volunteers with a lasting legacy to mark Charles’s crowning. Over 1,500 charities were involved, and the public was encouraged to take up hundreds of thousands of volunteering roles on the extra bank holiday.
Prince and Princess of Wales Volunteer
The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and little Prince Louis, volunteered at a local scout hut in Slough as part of the Big Help Out. The family braved the bad weather to make a final appearance together as part of the coronation celebrations. They joined enthusiastic volunteers in renovating the 3rd Upton Scouts Hut in Slough, with works including resetting a path, digging a new soakaway, sanding and revarnishing the front door, adding planters to the front of the building, and adding a mural to create a lasting legacy of the Big Help Out’s work.
Prince Louis’s First Royal Engagement
Prince Louis made his first royal engagement and was visibly awestruck as he painted handprints, pushed a wheelbarrow, and even maneuvered a digger with his father, William. His brother and sister were equally involved in the day’s activities, with Princess Charlotte helping to stain a fence, and future king George using a drill under the watchful eye of a scout leader. The young royals toasted marshmallows over a barbeque and tried their hand at archery as a reward for their hard work.
Coronation Concert
The royals stepped out in force on Sunday evening to celebrate at the Coronation Concert held at Windsor Castle. While Prince Louis missed the musical extravaganza, William and Kate brought along George and Charlotte, and the family had a great time. The concert saw performances by Take That, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, getting the royals on their feet and dancing during the 95-minute extravaganza. The concert also included appearances by Tom Cruise, Joan Collins, Bear Grylls, and Tom Jones via pre-recorded sketches revealing little-known facts about the monarch.
